Bonnie Morrison - True Style

PR Maven Bonnie Morrison was photographed by the sartorialist recently. Her style is impeccable. What I love is her take on living authentically....
"It's great to aspire to a profession, and there's always a demand for good,
smart people anywhere -- but don't aspire to a "lifestyle." I have a good life,
but it probably looks very different in person. Everyone should aspire to the
life that authentically represents her -- that's the only way to be
happy.."--Bonnie Morrison, publicity director of KCD
Read her whole interview over at The Fashion Bomb in which she speaks about breaking into the fashion industry, working hard, and actually studying the fashion business.

Frida Kahlo Vintage Wardrobe

Frida Kahlo

Frida Inspired Fashion Shoot

New on bookstands is "Self Portrait in a Velvet Dress: Frida's Wardrobe" released June 2008 by Chronicle books. It takes a look beyond Frida Kahlo as an artist and looks at one of the most interesting aspects of her persona - her wardrobe. When I learned of this book - I was interested in finding out more about Frida Kahlo's style of dress. What I like the most are the bold pieces of jewelry and her use of flowers as accents. Her style of dress has been a source of fashion inspiration - as evidenced by the Harper's Bazaar shoot in the third photo.

Vintage Movie: Mahogany

One of my favorite fashion movies is Mahogany featuring Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams. I still have a VHS copy that I watch. But, it was released on DVD last year for those that don't want their technology to be vintage. It chronicles Diana Ross through her journey as a fashion design student and ultimately becoming an international model. Mahogany is nostalgic but, still entertaining 33 years after its initial release in 1975.

The Little Black Dress

The one agreed upon "must have item" for any women is unquestionably the Little Black Dress or LBD for short. For those not content to just wear a LBD - now, there is a museum exhibit dedicated to this fashion icon. The exhibit takes place June 20 - August 25, 2008 at the Fashion and Textile Musuem in London. Charting the development of the little black dress from the 1920s to the present day, the exhibition looks at the stories behind women's favourite LBDs.

Here's to, Audrey Hepburn, the woman who made the Little Black Dress a part of our everyday language.

Style Icon: Iris Apfel

There is great difference between being fashionable and stylish. Being in fashion - just means that you are wearing a design that is widely accepted among a large group at any given time. But, where is the originality in that? Having true style is the exact opposite - it is being a testament to nonconformity. More or less, wearing what captures your mood or personality regardless of the general acceptance of your choices - makes one stylish. Iris Apfel is one such person that is elevated to iconic status for her use of color, mixture of couture with flea market finds, and application of over the top accessories. She inspires us to be true to ourselves and what we adore.

Feminine Plaids

On the Runway - Veronique Branquinho S08

On the street

Vintage Version

Here's a look at three different takes on ruffled plaid shirts. I think these shirts look best with a slim/skinny jean. Since the shirt has ruffles and puff sleeves - there's no need for a lot of addditonal ornamentation.
