A major retrospective of the French designer and casualwear pioneer, Sonia Rykiel, will take place at Les Arts Decoratifs. The exhibit runs November 20, 2008 - April 19, 2009. Annointed the "World's Queen of Knitwear" by Women's Wear Daily in 1970 - she created a unique style that was all her own. Relying on the heavy use of color, Rykiel's knitwear designs popped. She opened her own label in 1968 and it continues today under the direction of her daughter.
It's the Day after Thanksgiving and you wish that you hadn't eaten that last serving of Turkey. You are probably scared to even get near a scale, but you would be less hesitant if you owned a fabulous vintage model. Today's Featured Seller, JollyPollyPickins, talks about living a vintage life:
Let's go back to the days of manners, wearing gloves and hats in public, and of course wearing a proper suit for men. There are still men out there that enjoy the art of dressing - and cufflinks are an essential part of the well appointed wardrobe. Let's all hope for the return of the dandy. Today's featured seller, MissVictoriasVintage, shares her thoughts:
Consider this Mid-Century Date Book for the romantic in your life. Think of a simpler time when To-Do Lists were called "Engagements". Doesn't that make any appointment sound better? Featured Seller, Sharon Foster Vintage ,explains her love of vintage which started in childhood:
"Growing up, our family always went to auctions for our entertainment and outings. There is nothing like the thrill of your dad buying a big box of stuff for you for 25 cents and that could keep me busy for hours. Still does! but alas, the box is no longer a quarter."

I still wear it all the time. I love turning my friends and family on to the idea of vintage and antiques; by showing their beauty and uniqueness; and besides it's a great way to recycle!"

The 1970s was Gibb's decade, the years when he was discovered by Vogue and by America. His debut collection in 1972, held at the Oriental Club in London, was the sensation of the season. Everyone came - Cecil Beaton, Lord Snowdon, David Bailey, Beatrix Miller and of course Twiggy. It was this that really launched his brief moment in the spotlight. By 1975 Hollywood stars such as Elizabeth Taylor were wearing Bill Gibb, and he had his own shop on Bond Street. Source
