Chanel Art Container: Ode to a Purse

Chanel has opened its Contemporary Art Container - also known as its mobile museum - in New York, produced by its artistic director Karl Lagerfeld and designed by architect Zaha Hadid. The travelling exhibition presents works of leading contemporary artists from around the world, "depicting their thoughts on the concept of collaboration of fashion and art".

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company's iconic 2.55 quilted bag, Chanel has built a Zaha Hadid-designed torus-shaped exhibition hall in the middle of Central Park's Rumsey Playfield. The space-age exhibition hall, open to the public by a free-ticketing system, houses 18 handbag-inspired installations by international artists including Sylvie Fleury, David Levinthal, Yang Fudong and Michael Lin. Hurry - the show runs until November 9th - tickets are free.
